FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions about CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure)
CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is a treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). It works by keeping your airways open while you sleep, using a CPAP machine and mask. This helps support steadier breathing and can reduce snoring. At SuperPharmacyPlus, our pharmacists can help you find the right CPAP machines and masks to suit your needs.
A CPAP machine works by gently pushing a steady stream of air through a mask to keep your airways open while you sleep. This can help reduce snoring and support more comfortable, uninterrupted breathing. At SuperPharmacyPlus, we offer a range of CPAP machines and masks, and our pharmacists are happy to guide you to the best option for your needs.
CPAP therapy helps keep your airways open during sleep, supporting steadier breathing and more restful nights. Using CPAP machines and masks can reduce snoring and improve overall comfort while sleeping.
- Better Sleep: CPAP reduces nighttime awakenings, allowing for deeper, more restorative sleep.
- More Energy During the Day: Improved sleep can help you feel more alert, focused, and less drowsy.
- Heart Support: Consistent CPAP use helps maintain steady oxygen levels, easing stress on the heart.
- Overall Wellbeing: Many users notice improvements in mood, mental clarity, and daily energy.
At SuperPharmacyPlus, our pharmacists can guide you in choosing the right CPAP machines and masks to suit your individual needs.
CPAP therapy is usually recommended for people diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), where the airway can partially or fully collapse during sleep. It’s also helpful for those who snore loudly, wake up frequently, or feel very tired during the day. A sleep study can show whether CPAP is right for you, and our pharmacists at SuperPharmacyPlus can help you choose the CPAP machines and masks that suit your needs.
For the best performance and hygiene, components should be replaced regularly:
- Mask — Replace every 12 months. To maximise its longevity, follow the daily and weekly cleaning guidelines indicated for all masks and parts.
- Mask cushions and pillows — Mask cushions and nasal pillows that have deteriorated will lose their ability to conform to the shape of your face and form a tight seal. It’s best to replace them every six months to prevent the buildup of bacteria that may lead to skin irritation. Inspect them monthly for tears, residue buildup and signs of wear that may affect performance. AirTouch masks and cushions should be replaced every four to six weeks.
- Headgear — Replace every six months. Stretching and oil buildup can reduce effectiveness and fit.
- Chinstrap — Replace every six months. It may weaken, stretch or lose its Velcro grip over time.
- Tubing — Replace every 12 months. Condensation buildup and wear can compromise air quality and effectiveness.
- Filters — Replace disposable filters three times per month, or more often in high-traffic or building areas. Check filters monthly for signs of wear or buildup. Reusable foam filters should be replaced every six months and cleaned regularly for optimal performance.
- Humidifier water chamber — Replace every 12 months. If there are signs of rust, replace them immediately. Use distilled water to prevent buildup and maintain cleanliness.
- CPAP or Bilevel device — Replace every five years.
Check with your equipment provider, sleep specialist or insurer for specific replacement schedules.
