Occupational Therapist Funding Options

GPCCMP GP Chronic Condition Management Plan


Under a GPCCMP, Medicare offers rebates for services provided by Occupational Therapists. This government initiative allows individuals with chronic and complex illnesses to access up to 5 rebated sessions per calendar year.

To see if you qualify, book an appointment with your GP to arrange a referral. You will need to provide your referral letter at your consultation at SPP to claim this funding.


The current rebate for 2025 is $61.80

Private Health Insurance (Extras)


Based on your private health fund and coverage, you may be eligible to claim services under Extras.You will receive an invoice with the item code and provider number which you can submit to your private health fund for reimbursement.

The rebate amount will vary according to your specific health coverage. To find out the exact amount you will receive back, please contact your health fund directly and provide one of the following codes:


OT01 - OT initial consultation
OT07 - OT subsequent consultation

NDIS


Based on your private health fund and coverage, you may be eligible to claim services under Extras.

You will receive an invoice with the item code and provider number which you can submit to your private health fund for reimbursement.

Under an existing NDIS plan, you may be able to access occupational therapy services.You'll need to have an NDIS plan that includes funding for occupational therapy and usually approval will need to be gained from your plan manager before your appointment can be scheduled.Depending on your NDIS plan, you may pay for your services and submit the invoice for reimbursement or invoices may be sent directly to NDIS.

Home Care Package/Support at Home


To access our compression services through an existing Home Care Package or Support at Home Packages, approval from your case manager or service provider must be obtained to ensure the therapy aligns with your care plan and funding allowance.

Please send an email to [email protected] if you require assistance with this process. You will need to include details regarding your care co-ordinator and service provider. Once approved, your appointment can be scheduled.

Invoices will be sent directly to your service provider for payment of service fees.

DVA


Veterans in Queensland can access occupational therapy through the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) funding if they hold a Veteran Gold or White Card.

Referrals are required for fees to be processed through DVA.
Treatment cycles last up to 12 sessions or one year. Be sure to check if your referral is up to date.

Workcover


If you've been injured at work, you may be eligible for WorkCover funding to access occupational therapy services.

To initiate this, you'll need a referral from your GP or medical specialist. Occupational therapy appointments funded through WorkCover generally require pre-approval.
Invoices will be sent directly to your Workcover case manager for payment of service fees.
