CPAP Check Up

You may be surprised to learn that regular snoring and daytime sleepiness are not considered normal or healthy. These symptoms could indicate the presence of a sleep disorder known as obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). If left untreated, OSA can result in complications related to kidney, heart, and other metabolic health issues.
Sleep apnoea is a sleep disorder characterised by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. These interruptions, known as apnoeas, can last from a few seconds to minutes and may occur multiple times per hour. The most common types of sleep apnoea are:

- Loud snoring
- Episodes of breathing cessation during sleep, witnessed by another person
- Sudden awakenings accompanied by gasping or choking
- Dry mouth or sore throat upon awakening
- Morning headache
- Difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)
- Excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia)
- Difficulty concentrating during the day
- Mood changes, such as depression or irritability
Obstructive sleep apnoea occurs when the muscles in the throat relax to the extent that they obstruct airflow, resulting in breathing pauses lasting 10 seconds or more. Each pause is referred to as an apnoea.
